The standard algorithm for Pagerank can be abused by creating a large number of pages that reference each other, then pointing these page farms to a single page of interest to bolster its Pagerank. Content farms are made by monitoring search queries to create pages with low-quality content that appears similar to the popular queries. Both of these techniques can be used to artificially boost Pageranks.
